Dinner inspiration worth saving
tomato basil soup
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous tomato basil soup. I love the orange-red color with all those little green flecks.
The lower picture shows a pile of grated cheese and chopped basil ready to be stirred in.
If you want something alongside your bowl, I’d choose a toasted cheese sandwich for dipping.
beef stew over mash
How good does this bowl look? Big pieces of beef, carrots and mushrooms sit in dark gravy over a generous swirl of mashed potatoes.

Keep a little of the mash uncovered when you serve yours, just like this. Those chopped green herbs look so pretty scattered across both halves.
golden biscuits and chicken
This biscuit-topped chicken may just be one of my favorites here. I love the golden tops and the peas and carrots peeking through the pale sauce.
There’s no need for an elaborate serving setup with a dish like this. I’d put out shallow bowls so you can scoop up the chicken filling with a biscuit on top.
baked pasta with basil
I am obsessed with this pasta bake. The short pasta tubes have browned edges, melted cheese between them and big white dollops across the top.
Those whole basil leaves are such a pretty finishing touch.
Save this one if you love a cheesy pasta bake.
chili with golden toppings
If you’re looking for a dinner with lots of topping inspiration, this one is for you. Golden rounds sit over a red chili-style filling, with melted orange cheese and green pepper slices on top.
The avocado, lime wedges and white topping are served separately. I’d keep that setup so you can add a little of whatever you like.
dinner and a movie
Who says the food has to do all the work? This picture is more about the dinner setting, with taper candles, pink flowers and a black-and-white movie projected on the wall.
I love the patterned plates and mismatched candleholders. Borrow those details for your own dinner, keeping the flames away from flowers and other flammable decorations.
chicken with mushrooms and greens
That orange-colored sauce is the first thing that catches my eye. The chicken is surrounded by sliced mushrooms, wilted greens and little red pieces, with chopped herbs scattered over everything.
I’d pair a dish like this with rice or bread so you have something to serve with all that sauce.
soup with all the toppings
Don’t want to leave your soup plain? No problem!
This pale soup has shredded orange cheese, browned bacon pieces and chopped chives piled around a white dollop.

The toppings are my favorite part of this bowl. Try keeping a few extras on the table if you want to add more as you eat.
beef in red gravy
This is another lovely beef dinner, but the serving style is a little different. Large pieces sit together in a shallow dish of red-brown sauce, with carrots and chopped herbs around them.
I’d serve this family-style with a separate bowl of mashed potatoes. That leaves plenty of room for spooning over the gravy.
a loaded grazing board
Don’t want a big cooked main tonight? This board gives you another direction.
There are rows of sliced meats, cheese, crackers, apple slices and berries, with nuts tucked into the gaps.
I love the circle of cheese wedges in the middle. You can borrow that little detail for a smaller board without recreating the whole spread.
saucy chicken noodles
If you’re looking for something without lots of extra toppings, go with this chicken-and-noodle idea. Wide noodles and shredded chicken fill the dish, all coated in a thick pale sauce.

A few green herb flecks are the only colorful finish here. I’d keep the serving just as simple.
lasagna-style soup
Love the look of those wide, ruffled noodles? This lasagna-style soup has them folded through an orange-red broth with browned crumbles and scattered herbs.
It’s a fun direction to try when you’re choosing between pasta and soup. I’d bring out deep bowls for this one.
golden-topped skillet
Those little golden domes are so cute! They’re packed across the skillet with dark brown patches on top and sauce showing between them.
The filling is mostly hidden, so this is one to save for the topping arrangement rather than an exact recipe. I love how each round stays distinct instead of forming one flat layer.
sausage noodles and an egg
If you are looking for a bowl with lots going on, then this one is for you. Curly noodles are mixed with browned sausage slices, chopped vegetables and green pepper rings.
The fried egg on the side is my favorite part. Try that serving idea if you want to add an egg without covering all your noodles.
orange soup and croutons
I love this bright orange soup with the big golden croutons. There’s a pale swirl through the center, plus chopped herbs and a browned crumbly topping.
For a similar-looking bowl, you could choose a pumpkin or squash soup recipe. Keep extra croutons alongside it, just like the little bowl in the background.
a cheesy casserole
This one is for the cheese fans. The casserole has a blanket of melted white and orange cheese, with browned edges and green leaves scattered across the top.
Most of the filling is tucked out of sight. I’d borrow this finish for an enchilada-style bake using a recipe you already love.
meatloaf and loaded potatoes
Now this is a full dinner plate! Glazed meatloaf sits beside corn, green beans and potatoes topped with cheese, bacon pieces and chopped greens.
There’s a golden roll on the front plate too.
You don’t have to recreate every side. I’d start with the meatloaf and loaded potatoes, then pick whichever vegetable you’re in the mood for.
meatballs over orzo
This meatball bowl is so pretty. I love the browned tops against the bright orange sauce, with little pieces of orzo showing underneath.
Grated cheese and chopped herbs finish the bowl without hiding the meatballs. Save this one if you want a different pasta shape from the noodles above.
loaded toasted sandwiches
Can’t choose a sandwich filling? This picture gives you four directions: bacon cheddar, French onion, Buffalo chicken and jalapeño popper.
Each toasted sandwich is cut open so you can see the filling.
I’d choose the French onion version to go with soup. The jalapeño-filled one is worth saving if you like a little heat.
sausage and colorful vegetables
Last but definitely not least, we have this colorful sausage tray. I love the mix of broccoli, red onion, carrots and red and yellow peppers around the browned sausage slices.
Try serving a tray like this over rice if you want something underneath. There’s already plenty of color here without adding another topping.
