Looking for healthy recipes for weight loss that go beyond the same salad every day? Think colorful chicken bowls, lemon-topped fish and blueberry oats.
These meal ideas give you plenty to work with, whether you’re planning breakfast or deciding what to have for dinner.
You can keep things simple or try a few new combinations. Use these photos as inspiration rather than complete recipes. Ingredients and portions matter. No single dish guarantees weight loss.
Colorful meal ideas worth saving
chicken burrito bowl
We’re starting off strong with this colorful chicken burrito bowl. I love the separate piles of black beans, corn and chicken beside that bright lime wedge.
For your own version, try a cauliflower rice base and a spoonful of plain yogurt. Keep the toppings in little sections like these if you love seeing everything before you mix it.
lemon-topped cod
This lemon garlic cod may just be one of my favorite dinner ideas here. The browned tops, chopped herbs and bright lemon slices look so pretty together.
If you want something alongside it, try green beans and potatoes. There’s no need to make every part of the plate complicated.
shrimp and zucchini spirals
How gorgeous is this platter? The shrimp and halved tomatoes sit among long green zucchini spirals, with chopped herbs scattered over the top.

Try a mix of zucchini noodles and regular pasta if you’d like a little of both.
turkey and bean chili
If you are looking for a dinner you can serve by the bowlful, this one is for you. This ground turkey chili has red, black and pale beans throughout its thick red sauce.
I’d serve chopped scallions on the side so you can add them to your own bowl.
greek yogurt chicken salad
Don’t want another leafy salad? No problem!
This Greek yogurt chicken salad brings together shredded chicken, celery pieces and little bits of red onion.
Try it tucked into a sandwich or spooned beside crackers and sliced vegetables.
chicken and pepper tray
I love how colorful this tray looks before cooking. Sliced onions fill the front, with raw chicken strips and rows of yellow, red and green peppers behind them.
Use the combination as inspiration for a fajita-style dinner with tortillas. Follow a tested cooking method and check that the chicken reaches 165°F before serving.
cauliflower fried rice
Want a different way to use cauliflower? This fried rice idea has little orange carrot pieces and green peas mixed throughout.
The eggs are still uncooked in the cleared center of the pan, so this shows a cooking stage rather than the finished dish.
For your own meal, try serving the finished cauliflower rice with tofu or cooked chicken.
stuffed spaghetti squash
This is such a fun way to serve spaghetti squash. The yellow shell holds the filling, with red sauce and a pale grated topping over the strands.
I’d try a tomato-and-lentil filling for a variation. You still get that little squash boat without needing to guess the exact filling shown here.
colorful egg muffins
How cute are these little egg muffins? I love the leafy green strips and red and yellow vegetable pieces showing through their golden tops. Try serving yours with toast and fruit for breakfast.
salmon and avocado bowl
I am obsessed with the colors in this bowl. The glossy salmon sits over white rice beside cucumber, shredded carrots, edamame and sliced avocado.
The sesame seeds and scallion rings are lovely finishing touches. Don’t forget those if you want to follow the same presentation.
vegetable lentil soup
If you love a soup with plenty going on, this one is for you. There are lentils, carrot pieces and green-skinned zucchini chunks in the red-orange broth.
The chopped herbs on top are my favorite little detail. I’d pair a bowl with bread for dipping.
turkey-stuffed peppers
These stuffed peppers are almost too pretty to pass by. The yellow, orange, red and green halves hold a ground turkey filling with visible rice and melted cheese on top.
Try mixing pepper colors in your own baking dish. You don’t need matching halves for this to look lovely.
blueberry banana oats
Looking for breakfast inspiration instead? These blueberry and banana overnight oats are a lovely place to start.
I love how the blueberries run through the jar rather than sitting only on top.
Keep a few banana slices for the finish if you want yours to look like this.
shrimp lettuce cups
The lettuce cups are so pretty in this one. Each leaf holds shrimp, pepper strips and a chunky green-and-yellow topping.
For your own version, try an avocado and mango salsa with a squeeze of lime. Set out rice alongside the cups if you’d like something extra.
chicken and snap peas
Don’t want lots of different toppings? No problem!
This stir-fry keeps the focus on chicken pieces and bright green snap peas in a glossy brown sauce. I’d serve it with rice and leave the presentation simple.
chunky cabbage soup
If you prefer chunky soup to a smooth blend, save this one. Broad cabbage pieces, carrot rounds and red tomato pieces fill the bowl.
Try adding white beans to your own version for another ingredient to spoon up. Keep it as one option in a varied meal plan rather than a soup-only diet.
sweet potato and black bean bowl
This is another colorful bowl, but it’s a little different from the chicken one above. I love the sweet potato cubes beside black beans, cucumber and orange-coated cauliflower.

The chunky avocado topping and scattered scallions bring everything together. Keep the lime wedge if you want to follow this serving idea.
tuna cucumber salad
Those thin cucumber rounds make such a pretty base for this tuna salad. The avocado chunks, chopped herbs and small pale seeds give you plenty besides the tuna.
You can keep the ingredients in sections like the top photo or toss them together like the bottom one. I’d choose the tossed version for serving.
chicken over mixed greens
If you are looking for something familiar, this one is for you. Sliced chicken sits over mixed leaves with cucumber rounds and halved cherry tomatoes.
I love the browned edges on the chicken and the little herb flecks. Try a lemon dressing on the side to go with the wedges shown here.
purple berry smoothie bowl
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous purple smoothie bowl. I love the blueberries and blackberries clustered along one side, with chopped nuts scattered between them.
For your own blend, try berries with plain yogurt. Leave part of the purple base showing if you like this same look.
