Looking for exterior front door ideas that give you more than another neutral paint color? Think bright red, soft sage or a gorgeous arch with scrolling details.
These entrances have plenty to save, whether you’re choosing a new door or just deciding what to put beside yours.
You can keep things simple or go all out. I especially love the colorful doors with matching planters. Even a little detail like a gold-tone knocker gives you something to build on.
Front door looks worth saving
black door and rounded topiaries
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous black door against white brick. I love the little gold-tone ring knocker and the matching black lanterns.
Try a pair of rounded topiaries in tall square planters to follow this entrance. The red brick steps are such a pretty detail beneath all that black and white.

tall windows and a brown surround
If you love a door with lots of window space, this one is for you. The black double doors have tall panes with thin geometric lines running through them.
The reddish-brown surround continues across the ceiling above. I’d keep the planters simple here, like the plain white and dark pots shown.
an arch with scrolling details
How gorgeous is this arched entrance? There’s so much to love, from the dark scrollwork around the windows to the decorative shapes on the brown door.
The matching wall lanterns are worth saving too. If you’re choosing a door this detailed, you can leave off the wreath.
bright red and white trim
I am obsessed with this red door. The color carries across the narrow side windows too, which makes the whole entrance feel so cheerful.
Try this bright shade with white trim and black lanterns. Don’t forget a couple of rounded shrubs if you want to follow the planting on either side.
sage green and an opening window
This sage green may just be one of my favorite colors here. The upper window is shown swung inward, while the lower part of the door has simple vertical grooves.
That gold-tone handle is so pretty against the green. I’d choose a similar finish if you’re trying this color on your own door.
horizontal lines and a long handle
Don’t want to add a bold paint color? No problem!
This honey-colored door has visible grain and broad horizontal sections, with an extra-long black handle.
I love how the frame follows the same color as the door. There’s no need for much decoration with an entrance like this.
navy doors with gold-tone accents
These navy double doors are just so pretty. The ornate handles and gold-tone plates along the bottom are my favorite parts.
A tan mat with a dark border picks up the same colors below. Try that combination if you want your entrance accessories to match without adding more navy.
amber geometric windows
If you’re looking for something with a little pattern, go with an entrance like this. Amber-colored squares and narrow rectangles decorate the upper window and both sidelights.
I especially love the small ledge beneath the door’s window. The brown panels and dark handle keep the rest simple.
black and white porch entrance
This is such a cute starting point for a farmhouse-style porch. The black door and sidelights repeat the divided window shapes above, with white planters tucked beside the entrance.
Keep a black lantern on either side if you want to follow this look. The black porch railings bring that same color across the front.
yellow door and a small wreath
Who says you have to stick to dark colors? This yellow door looks lovely against the gray siding and white columns.
A small round wreath sits above the dark letter slot. Try a simple wreath like this if you still want plenty of your door color to show.
pale blue double doors
I love these pale blue doors with the curved window above. The little round gold-tone accents beneath the panes are just too pretty.
The light-colored trim follows the arch around the entrance. If you like softer colors, save this blue instead of going straight to white.
stacked rectangular panes
If you are looking for a modern door without lots of decoration, this one is for you. Wide rectangular panes run down the dark door, with narrower windows on either side.
I’d keep the small tan doormat and dark handle just like this. The amber glow around the entrance is already a lovely extra detail.
teal door and matching pots
This is actually one of my favorite color combinations on the list. The teal door looks so cute with matching rounded pots full of pale flowers.
Try repeating your door color in a planter or two. The black wall pots here give you another way to add greenery without filling up the steps.
lime doors with square windows
Okay, these lime-colored doors are so fun! Rows of little square windows cover both doors, with a much larger window above.
The black pendant and tall dark planter keep the accessories simple. I’d leave the doors without wreaths so you can see that whole grid.
soft pink on a small porch
Don’t want to go all out with the porch decor? No problem!
This soft pink door has simple rectangular panels, a dark handle and a small mat underneath.
I love that the little covered entrance is left mostly open. You can try a pretty door color without adding pots to every corner.
deep brown raised panels
This is another simple entrance, but it has a much darker look. I love the reddish-brown grain showing where the sunlight hits the raised panels.
A narrow dark letter slot sits between the upper and lower panels. Choose plain rectangular wall lights if you want to keep yours similarly understated.
white flowers against black
How cute is this floral entrance? The large white wreath looks gorgeous against the black door, with more white flowers in the pots beside it.
Try layering a smaller doormat over a black-and-white striped rug to follow this look. The gold-tone handle is a pretty finishing detail.
brown grain and overflowing planters
If you love a rustic-looking entrance, this one is worth saving. The brown door has visible grain, small upper panes and vertical lines below.
I especially love the trailing plants spilling over the black planters. Add a striped mat if you want another pattern beside the irregular shapes of the surrounding wall.
charcoal gray and white urns
This gray entrance may just be a favorite for anyone who loves darker colors. The door, frame and surrounding siding are all close in shade, with a green wreath in the middle.

The white urn-shaped planters look so pretty on either side. Try those if you want something brighter without changing the door itself.
slim vertical slats
Last but definitely not least, we have this brown slatted entrance. I love how the narrow vertical lines continue across the door and the surrounding panel.
The long black pull is a detail I’d keep. There’s already so much pattern here that you can leave the rest of the entrance simple.
